What It Means To “Be The First”
In the mid-19th century, women were viewed as second class citizens in our society. In the face of this adversity and the fight for women’s rights, six young women at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia were in search of “mental, moral, social, and domestic improvement.” Together, they founded the first secret society for women on May 15, 1851, which we are now proud to call Alpha Delta Pi today! Our founders paved the way for many after them and we say “Be The First” as a tribute to them and to embody this motto as leaders and trailblazers in each of our communities. The Gamma Rho chapter at Arizona State University strives to continue our “Be The First” legacy as the first and longest standing sorority on campus!
We have come a long way since 1851! Please join us in celebrating the empowering, inspiring, and extraordinary women in your life. Never forget to recognize your own accomplishments and little victories!
